Martha L. Ochoa
I was born in Cusco, Peru, archeological capital of America and World Heritage Site. I studied at the Santa Anna School and continued my higher education at the Cusco School of Fine Arts, and the San Antonio Abad University. My studies were in the fileds od design, architecture, methodology, and pedagogy. Simultaneously I studied restoration and other fields related to my profession.
When I was young my favorite subjects for painting, from the many thousands of projects I have, were landscapes, still lifes and portraits. These subjects, among others, aquire importance now because I am preparing the most important show of my life, a show with thousands of miniature paintings.
My decision to continue that historic legacy started a facet in my artistic work together with the most important artist Miguel Baca. We designed and created a new version of the colonial painting style, using the same techniques. We then took our work to important exhibitions throughout the world to fullfill many important events. My paintings are not intended for canvas only, I also work in Frescos and Murals.
I hold strong honor for my grandfathers, renowned Peruvian artists.Firstly, Francisco Olazo was one of the founders of t he Cusco School of Fine Arts. He spent most of his life in Paris, mastering Impressionism with Andean Landscapes. My Great-Grandfather, Ernesto Olazo, was a famous sculptor, whose most importanta work is an architectural masterpiece which overlooks the city of Cusco in the form of an 80 foot tall figure of “The Christ”
