PETER HAWKINS
(An Englishman in Texas!)
Born, raised, and educated in England Peter played all sports particularly rugby union at schools level for county and area teams. He was an England schoolboy trialist at three age levels. On leaving the university he served as an apprentice for a cabinet/furniture maker, on completion he never touched wood again for over 30 years. He then concentrated on a future in the textile and chemical industries, primarily in the printing field. He was rated one of the top two people in the world in this particular field. While also doing this he became an international championship dog show judge. One of the high points was judging at the Crufts dog show. Both the judging and the industries meant living abroad for long periods of times primarily in the middle east and Indian ocean areas.
Eventually decided to take an early retirement and settled just outside Cibolo in South Texas. Now 30 years later he tried wood-turning and immediately fell in love with this form of art.
Peter's Quote “I found I had a natural talent and could easily see shapes and designs in raw lumber, each new piece I do is an advance for me in this field, I have a particular interest in objects with voids and unusual grain patterns and I am also trying new and hopefully unusual item.”
