Frits Van Eden
Frits Van Eden was born in Tilburg,
Holland, in March 1944. A short time later his family moved to and settled
in the city of the The Hague, on the North Sea. Because of early
discovered dyslexia, he began study with private teachers, one of them Ed
Strelitski. Strelitski, who was a graduate of the Hague Academy, in turn,
introduced Frits to Theo Bitter, Wim Beuning, Bram Roth, Derek Bus and Jan
Goeting, all major names in the art world at that time. Goeting was kind
enough to allow Frits to work in his studio for a time. All of these
artists were members of the Pulchri Studio and through them Frits was invited to
membership in Pulchri following four years study at the Rietveld Academy in
Amsterdam. He became a working member of the Pulchri Studio in 1969, for
both sculpting and painting. This useful crossing of techniques reveals
itself today in the 3-D quality of his work.
